1st English Language Academies National Conference CIE The School for Leaders

The Centre for International Education (CIE), The School for Leaders, spearheaded the first English Language Academies National Conference held last Oct. 28, 2009, 1 p.m. at the Malcolm Hall, College of Law, University of the Philippines, in Diliman, Quezon City.

Speakers in the conference included Andrew King, country director of IDP Education Pty. Australia; Joel Laughren, regional team leader of the University of Cambridge English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL); and Prof. Nelia Cruz Sarcol, founder and president of the Centre for International Education.

The invited speakers discussed how education providers can equip their clients with excellent English language skills, as well as enable them to earn qualifications that are useful when they travel, pursue further studies, and vie for employment and business opportunities all over the world.

Speaker Andrew King pointed out that employers in countries where many Filipinos seek to enter to earn higher wages are now seeking quality English skills. “The demand in English is going higher and higher,” King noted. “How good you are in English is becoming more important.”

For an affordable fee of P300 per participant, owners and administrators of English language training centers, administrators of both public and private schools, English language teachers/instructors/trainers, as well as college level and graduate students were able to benefit from the conference. Public school students and teachers, as well as DepEd and ChED personnel, were entitled to a 50 percent discount upon presentation of a valid ID.
