DTI-Region 9 Hosted Back-to-Back Mindanao Fair

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 9 in cooperation with the Zamboanga City government hosted the 2nd Mindanao Investment Conference (iCon) and 4th OTOP Mindanao Island Fair 2009 from October 9 to 12, 2009 at the Garden Orchids Hotel in the said city.

With the theme, "Steer the Wheels to Progress... Invest in MindaNow!", the 2nd Min iCon aimed to contribute in increasing Mindanao's trade and investments through the creation of more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by way of promoting featured investment opportunities on the production and processing of: 1) Pangasius; 2) Seaweeds; 3) High Value Marine Culture; 4) Cardava Banana; 5) Coconut By-Products; 6). Bamboo; 7) Moringa; 8) High Value Vegetables; and 9) Halal Foods. Renowned experts will present previously mentioned investment opportunities from the private sector.

The Department of Trade & Industry, on the other hand, conceptualized OTOP Mindanao Island Fair, in 2006 to feature an array of products from handicraft to food products of the different OTOP coming from all over Mindanao. Some of the event’s product focus include jewelry and fashion accessories; furniture and furnishing; gifts, home decors, and accents; organic and natural products; fresh and processed food; raw materials components; ornamental plants and cut flowers; arts and crafts; and holiday and Christmas decors.

DTI 9 Regional Director Nazrullah Manzur noted that they are hoping for more investors to come and the event was another opportunity to highlight their products not only to the region but also all over Mindanao.
