University of the Philippines (UP) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) dominated their respective divisions during the 2009 Vincente Hao Chin Sr. Memorial Cup 8th National Inter-Scholastic Table Tennis Championship and International Invitationals held last October 17 – 21 at the Ateneo Table Tennis Training Center in Ateneo de Manila University in Katipunan, Quezon City.
Organized by AdMU and sanctioned by the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP), the event gathered the brightest players from schools and universities nationwide and competed in fourteen tournament events. These were men’s and women’s school team (college), boy’s and girl’s school team (high school and elementary), men’s and women’s non-rank event, boy’s and girl’s singles event (high school and elementary), men’s and women’s open singles.
UP defeated University of Perpetual Help in a 3-0 sweep while UST claimed victory against last year’s overall winner, St. Martin High Montessori in a 3-2 triumph in the men’s and women’s division.
In other championship matches, Tapia Elementary School outplayed Mabatang Elementary School, 3-0, for the boy’s title while Joyful Angel School defeated Tapia Elementary School, 3-0, for the girl’s crown.
