Campus Journalism Strengthen at Inkblots 2009

Campus journalists, editors, advisers, and journalism educators from all over the country took part in Inkblots 2009: the 11th University of Sto. Tomas (UST) National Campus Journalism Fellowship held last October 21 to 23 at the UST Thomas Aquinas Research Complex in EspaƱa, Manila.

Organized by The Varsitarian, the 81-year-old official student publication of the University of Santo Tomas, the event aims to promote press excellence and foster camaraderie among campus journalists all over the country. Since its conception in 1998, it has gathered several respected journalists in the country to talk about compelling issues faced by journalists today

Invited resource speakers for this year included GMA-7 News Reporter Cesar Apolinario, Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Conrado de Quiros, Tempo entertainment editor Nestor Cuartero, and University of the Philippines-Diliman Vice-President for Public Affairs Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, among others.

Like the previous Inkblots, this year’s fellowship consisted of seminars on news writing, sports writing, investigative reporting, features writing, culture and lifestyle writing, opinion or column writing, and parallel sessions on writing for broadcast, and cartooning and lay-outing.
