POA at 60: Bracing to be a Pillar of in the World Orthopedics

Philippine Orthopaedic Association (POA) has already reached its 60th Annual Convention year!

Last November 9 to 14, 2009, POA held its 60th Annual Convention combined with holding the the 29th ASEAN Othopaedic Association Meeting, 2nd ASEAN Arthroplasty Association Meeting, and 1st Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA)-POA Course.

For its diamond jubilee convention, POA concentrated on the theme East meets West: A Global Perspective of Lower Limb Orthopaedics. Dr. Jose S. Pujalte, POA President and the organizing committee’s Honorary Chairman said that as orthopedic surgeons, they must continually improve temselves because they serve a diverse region of 575 million people. “We are committed to providing opportunities to all delegates for exchanging ideas, practices, and techniques,” said Dr. Pujalte.

Lectures on the meeting featured the diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas in benign tumors, limb-deformity evaluation and management, skeletal injuries and open fractures, hip and knee anthroplasty, foot and ankle pathologies, and lower-limb angular deformities. Some topics that were also discussed in line with POSNA were femular shaft fracture in children, lower limb angular deformities, new treatment updates and concepts legg-calve-perthes disease, sports related problems in the lower extremities, bone and joint infections, elbow fracture in children, and the Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH).

Other than lectures, the convention also had given the delegates some time-out activities like joining the first ASEAN President’s Cup Golf Tournament which also hosted by POA.
