LARYNX – 53rd PSO-HNS Annual Convention Focal Concern

“Larynx in Focus”, the theme of Philippine Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Inc. (PSO-HNS) 53rd Annual Convention, set the conference’s concentration to the delegates and specialists who attended the event at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, Mandaluyong City last November 29 to December 01, 2009.

Mr. Jacob S. Matubis, MD, President of PSO-HNS, Inc. and the convention’s Honorary Chair, relayed in his message that the theme generally encompassed the issues on the larynx, which he described to be an “oft-neglected anatomical part”, to help ENT Practitioners face the challenges they encounter from patients, from Infection to new growths, diagnosis to treatments, Voice health and rehabilitation, and using simple to the state-of-the-arts paraphernalia needed in its management. The theme also aimed to assert an increasing role in the care and treatment of all ENT problems.

The convention was attended by plenary speakers including Mr. Wei-Chung Hsu, MD, PhD and Mr. Kuo-Sheng Lee, MD of Taiwan, Mr. Kiminori Sato, MD, PhD and Mr. Eiji Yumoto, MD, PhD of Japan, Ms. Wen Xu, PhD of China, Mr. Jack Kiang, MD, PhD and Professor Gregory Postma, MD of United States of America (USA), Mr. David Lau, MD of Singapore, and Prof. Wolf J. Mann, MD of Germany, and foreign speakers including Narinder Duggal, BSc (Pharm), CDE, CGP, BCPP, MD, FRCPC, FASCP of USA, Sheng-Po Hao, MD, FACS, FICS of Taiwan, Hong-Ryul Jin, MD, PhD, Kwang-Hyun Kim, MD, PhD and Sung-Wan Kim, MD, PhD of Korea, Joachim Mΰller, MD of Germany, Prof. Henryk Skarzynski, MD of Poland, and Pontus Stierna, MD, PhD of Sweden.


Topics on Facial Plastic, Sleep Medicine, Otology/ Neuro-Otology, Head & Neck, Maxillofacial, and Rhinology other than Laryngology were also discussed in the convention.

The event was organized by PSO-NHS Organizing Committee of 2009 led by Mr. William L. Lim, MD, PSO-NHS 35th Annual Convention Over-all Chairman, and was sponsored by UNILAB.
