“Doing Business Amidst New Threats IV” was the theme of the event organized by Leverage International (Consultants) Inc. and Anti-Terrorism Council slated on May 13-15, 2009.
Protect 2009, challenged businesses with the huge question of “Have you booked yourself yet?”
Recognizing the condition of the business world most especially after it has been affected by the global financial crisis, this event gave light on measures or actions that ought to be taken by businesses.
Two of the main points that Protect 2009 presented were on how to stay in business despite the given economic crisis, and how to prevent business disruptions resulting from damage of physical assets, sabotage on supply chain, cyber risks, counterfeiting, violation of local bank security, and others.

GACPA Heads 31st Annual National Convention at Davao City
The Government Association of Certified Public Accountants (GACPA) invites all government accountants, budget officers, disbursing officers, finance officers, auditors to attend the 31st Annual National Convention from May 20 to 22, 2009 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Convention Center in Davao City.
With the theme, “GACPA for Knowledge and Action towards Good Governance”, the event aims to give participants the right perspective and knowledge in good governance, risk management, ethics, economics and overall accountability mandate that may eventually enable them to effectively perform their roles in their respective areas of responsibility.
A golf and badminton tournament for GAPCA members will kick off the convention. Round table technical discussions and relevant sessions are scheduled during the three-day convention. Among the speakers and panelist include National Economic Development Authority Director Dennis M. Arroyo, Department of Finance Domestic Finance Group Undersecretary Gil S. Beltran, Department of Budget & Management Undersecretary Mario L. Relampagos, and Commission on Audit Commissioner Juanito G. Espino, Jr. Moreover, equally knowledgeable persons have been invited as moderators to stimulate the discussions.

Anthroposophy Experts Visited Philippines for Asia-Pacific Anthroposophical Conference
International experts presented their studies and enlighten teachers and policy makers about the new field of anthroposophy and its possible contribution to child education and learning during the 2009 Asia-Pacific Anthroposophical Conference (APAC), held last May 2-4, 2009 at the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) in Quezon City.
The three-day conference, hosted by Anthroposophical Group in the Philippines (AGP) and the Manila Waldorf School together with Freunde der Erziehungskunst (Friends of Waldorf Education) carried the theme, "The Foundation of Human Experience and the Challenges of Modern Life on Children's Development and Education". The event is held in conjunction with the Asian Waldorf Teachers Conference last May 2 – 8, 2009.
Conference facilitators from different countries shared their experiences in education, economy, ecology and related fields during the event. Among the conference speakers were Dr. Grace Zozobrado – Hahn from the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital, Ms. Nana Goebel, General secretary of the Anthroposophical Society in Germany, Mr. Chris Bennet, co-Director of the Grades Teacher Training at the West Coast Institute for Studies in Anthroposophy, and Dr. Christof Wiechert, leader of the Pedagogical Section at the Goetheanum, an anthroposophical research center in Dornach, Switzerland

5TH BICOL BUSINESS WEEK
The Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MNCCI) in partnership with the city government of Naga hosted the 5th Bicol Business week (BBW) on May 10-17, 2009 at the Avenue Plaza Grounds, Magsaysay Avenue, Naga City.
The 5th Bicol Business Week featured various exhibits on agri-aqua fair, consimer-goods expo, real estate and contruction show, gayon bicol sa naga, orgullo kan bikol sa naga, and new technologies showcase.
Among other activities held in the week-long program were seminars and fora, job fairs, a fellowship night, and the Halyao awards that recognized the most outstanding Bicolano Businessmen.
Among the awardees of the Halyao Awards were Ms. Socorro M. Buban of Albay, owner of Buban Lines, Ms. Luz E. Ricasio, one of the biggest investor of pawnshops, hotels, buildings and other businesses in Capalonga, Camarines Norte, and Mr. Robert Lee Obiedo, owner of Robertson Department Stores and the Villa Caceres Hotel.
Also joining them were Sorsogon’s Mr. Francisco L. Aranda, owner of “Uncle Frank’s Roasted Coffee” brand and Masbate’s Mr. Rafael Chan Lim, a pioneer investor of Lodging Houses and Shopping Mall in Cataingan.
The seminars and fora also presented various topics related to businesses.
