Soon-to-wed couples, debutants, and other individuals can start planning their parties by meeting up with local wedding and events suppliers during Celebrations! A Bridal Show and Events Expo to be held on May 22 – 23, 2010 at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Celebrations! is created with the idea that all of life’s big events deserve a special celebration. Hence, Celebrations! covers it all: venues and facilities, catering, entertainment, event styling and decoration, photo and video services, invitations, souvenirs, wedding rings, cakes, flowers and balloons, lighting and sound facilities, audio visual equipment, special effects and more.

Numerous activities have been lined up for attending guests. Admission is free for pre-registered couples, debutants and guests. P100.00 will be charged for walk-in and non-registered guests.

Dance Xchange 2010 Emphasized Philippines’ Commitment to World Dance Community

In the hopes of creating conditions for dialogue and cooperation within the world dance community, the National Committee on Dance of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) again spearheaded the Philippine celebration of International Dance Day through Dance Xchange: The 2nd Philippine International Dance Workshop and Festival held last April 15 – 19, 2010 at Roxas City, Capiz.

Organized by the NCCA - National Committee on Dance, headed by Ms. Shirley Halili-Cruz, Dance Xchange aims to strengthen international dance network, showcase the unique dances of each country to facilitate cultural understanding, provide venue for interaction and facilitate learning among dancers, directors, dance teachers, and choreographers; encourage the creation of new works, and provide a platform for local and foreign choreographers and dancers to stage their works.

This year’s theme is “Cultural Connectivity through Dance”. The 2nd Dance Xchange lived up to its promise as a bigger network of top Philippine dance companies and international dance companies from Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, England, and U.S.A. participated in the said event compared to last year.

The event also coincided with the celebration of the 109th Foundation Day of Capiz and the 62nd death anniversary of President Manuel Acuña Roxas.

The International Theater Institute (ITI) Dance Committee Chairman Neville Shulman, Conseil International de la Danse President, Prof. Alkis Raftis, and International Council of Folkloric Festival and Traditional Arts Organizations President Dr. Udomsak Sakmunwong were invited to talk about the global concerns on dance.

Dance Xchange: The 2nd Philippine International Dance Workshop and Festival is endorsed by the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Technical and Educational Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

UST National On-the-Spot Painting Contest

The University of Santo Tomas held its Annual Inter-School On-the-Spot Painting Competition last February 25 at the Benavides Garden fronting the UST Main Building. This year’s theme is “Mag-ina: Larawan ng Yaman ng Kultura at Kalikasan” (Mother and Child: Portrait of Natural and Cultural Heritage).

Organizer of the event Fr. Isidro Abano, OP, director of the UST Museum noted that this year’s contest seeks to dramatize the important role of the Filipino mother and her children in today’s changing society. He specifically noted that the theme encourages among the youth a return to the values that the concepts of Mother and Nature instill in us.

This year’s judges were architect-interior designer Jonathan Matti, gallery owner and art leader Silvana Diaz, and actress Candy Pangilinan.

Among the universities and colleges participated were Adventist University of the Philippines, Bulacan State University, College of the Holy Spirit, Far Eastern University, Philippine Women’s University, Technological University of the Philippines, and the University of the Philippines.
