PHILCONSTRUCT 2010

PHILCONSTRUCT 2010 is known as one of the most remarkable events dedicated to the building and constructing industry in the Philippines. CREBA Visayas Regional Real Estate and Housing Conference

The Chamber of Real Estate & Builders’ Associations, Inc. (CREBA) held its First Regional Real Estate & Housing Conference in Visayas at the Casino EspaƱol de Cebu, Ranudo Street, Cebu City last July 31, 2010. This event was announced by Florentino S. Dulalia Jr., National President of CREBA, and Julius G. Topacio, Vice-President for chapter affairs.

The event was organized by regional vice-president for Visayas, Dennis G. Jalbuena as conference chairman and hosted by the CREBA-Cebu Chapter led by Herbert Buot, chapter president.

CREBA is the Philippine umbrella organization of professionals and entities engaged in real estate and housing development, tourism facilities, building and construction, technical consultancy, marketing and other related services. With its advocacy programs and initiatives, it has become government’s strongest ally in pursuing a truly rational and affordable national housing program.

This Visayas Conference was the second of a series of four conferences all over the country designed to address the specific concerns of businessmen and other professionals on issues and trends that directly impact real estate and housing, as well as its allied industries and professions.

The one-day confab will highlight the opportunities, implications, licensing and examinations under the new Real Estate Service Act (RESA), signed into law in June 2009 in order to further professionalize the practice of real estate brokerage and marketing, appraisal and consultancy in the Philippines.

The conference is accredited under the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program for real estate practitioners.

The 18th CebuCon: Construction Show Cebu

Largest Construction Exhibition Slated at SMX This November

The largest construction exhibition in the country, the Philippine International Construction Equipment & Building Materials Exhibition & Technology Forum, (PHILCONSTRUCT 2009) is gearing for its 19th annual run on November 12–15, 2009 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

Organized by the Philippine Construction Association, Inc. (PCA), PHILCONSTRUCT has become the venue for interrelated businesses to forge partnership and showcase the latest products and services in the construction, building, mining, and household industry.

Like in the previous years, PHILCONSTRUCT incorporates the 12th International Heating, Ventilating, Air-Conditioning, Refrigerating, Pumps, Valves & Pipes Filtration and Purification Technology Exhibition & Conference (HVAC/R PHILIPPINES 2009), 4th International Exhibition of Equipment, Machinery, Tools, Technology and Support Services for the Mining Industry (MINING ASIA 2009), and the 6th International Interiors, Furnishing & Furniture, Lighting, Home Entertainment & Total Lifestyle Exhibition (INTERIOR WORLD 2009).

Manila Construction Show 2009 Staged

Eco Bahay Kubo and Live/Work Dwelling became the highlights of the concluded ManilaCon held at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex on September 3-6, 2009.

Organized by L.A. Ducut and Company, Inc, the Exhibit gathered key players in the building and construction industry and showcased initiatives on green and sustainable built environment. There were Green Gallery of Sustainable Architectural Designs which featured actual projects of active practitioners of green architecture; Green Forum, a 2-day discussion and presentation on the green and sustainable building design principles to promote Green Architecture in the Philippines. Speakers included Engr. Edmond P. Maceda of Ayala Land; Architect Christopher dela Cruz, Chairman, Philippine Green Building Council; Hon. Cong. Ana York Bondoc; and Atty. Antonio Oposa, Jr. President, Batas ng Kalikasan who provided insights about environmental laws in the Philippines. The 1st Green Architecture Student Symposium was also among the many activities during Manila Con.

Metalworking Products Showcased at PDMAEC 2009

Local and international companies involved in the metalworking industry showcased their latest products during the 4th Philippine Die & Mold, Machine Tools, Sheet Metal, Metalworking Machinery, Equipment, Tools, Accessories, Hardware and other related Products and Services Exhibition and Conference (PDMAEC 2009) held last August 27 – 30, 2009 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Organized by the Philippine Die and Mold Association, Inc., the event incorporates five events, namely 2nd Philippine Automation, Controls, Robotics, Accessories and Services Exhibition (AUTORCOR 2009); 1st Metal Finishing Equipment, Tools, Accessories and Services Exhibition (METALFIN 2009); 1st Philippine Plastics Machinery, Equipment, Tools, Accessories, Raw Materials, Products and Services Exhibition (PHILPLAS 2009); 2nd Philippine Welding Equipment, Tools and Accessories Exhibition (PHILWELD 2009), and the 2nd Philippine Manufacturing, Subcontracting, Metrology, and Outsourcing & Engineering Exhibition (SUBMETR SOURCE 2009).

PICE held Mid-year Confab at Bacolod City

Over 1,500 members from the construction, consulting, academic, and commercial sector took part in the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) 2009 National Midyear Convention held last June 25 – 27, 2009 at the Bacolod Pavilion Resort Hotel in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Hosted by PICE Negros Occidental Chapter, the convention carried the theme, “Civil Engineers Sustaining Infrastructure Development Amidst Global Economic Crisis”. According to PICE National President Venancio I. Besavilla Jr., the convention aims to tackle technical issues involving construction management and engineering, transportation engineering and structural engineering.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. graced the opening ceremony and served as keynote speaker. His keynote address was followed by the inspirational talk of Engr. Jose Mabanta, recipient of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) “2009 Most Outstanding Civil Engineer Award”.

Dr. Benito M. Pacheco, officer-in-charge director of the Institute of Civil Engineering in the University of the Philippines College of Engineering, gave an overview of the workshop on the PICE disaster mitigation and preparedness strategies and disaster quick response program.

The guest speakers discussed topics on engineering technologies related to the five division of PICE such as Construction and Management Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Water Resources, and Hydraulic Engineering.

The PICE 2009 National Midyear Convention also featured the PICE Construction Technologies Services and Building Materials, Exhibit, Sports Tournament, Plenary Session, Technical Tracks, Job Fair, and Fellowship. The event was capped with the PICE Building Project Grand Slam Raffle where they gave away laptop bags, traveling bags, DVD players, a fax machine, cell phones, a digital camera, a digital video camera, a laptop and a brand new Nissan Navarra.

ASEP Gathered Engineers, Others For International Convention

Architects, building officials, civil engineers, consultants, developers, manufacturers, materials engineers, field inspectors, project engineers and managers, as well as structural engineering students attended the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc., (ASEP) 14th International Convention held at the Grand Ballroom of Great Eastern Hotel in Quezon City last May 21 – 22, 2009.

Guided by the theme, “Structural Engineering: Coping with the Global Crisis', the annual convention was filled with technical sessions that tackled a wide array of topics. These include performance-based design; retrofitting and strengthening; structural failures; structural risk; natural hazards and disaster crisis mitigation; ISO Standards and Codes of Practice, earthquake and wind engineering; value engineering; engineering ethics; urban planning and infrastructure development; fire, impact, and blast loads; case studies on high-rise buildings and long-span bridges; and prestresses and pre-cast construction, foundation, and geotechnical issues.

Seven plenary sessions were held throughout the event. These were the following:
