1st FINEX Fun Marathon runs for a Cause

It is not only for weight loss, perspiration, and fun. On September 12, 2010, for the first time, the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) will hold its 1st FINEX Fun Run for a great cause.

Happening at the SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City, this fun race for all races - families, group of friends, youngsters and elderly, celebrities, athletes, sports enthusiasts, will give its proceeds to the Marillac Hills Center for Abused Children, the Laura Vicuna Foundation, ChildHaus, Bahay Mapagmahal, and Habitat for Humanity. Surely, every delegate will not just be a great part of the event's success but will also be an early present to all their beneficiaries.

The marathon will have races types such as three-kilometer, five-kilometer, and ten-kilometer run. Registration fees will be at P300, P400, and P500 respectively. Registration areas for the event will be at the Chris Sports.

Fourth Mommy Milkshake Marathon

Breastfeeding is one of the most rewarding experiences for a mother – not only does it ensure the proper nutrition for babies, it also serves as an emotional “bonding” moment for the mother and her child, forging a connection between them.

With all sorts of different “runs for a cause” popping up, Mommy Mundo decided to kick off the breastfeeding month of August with the Fourth Mommy Milkshake Marathon last Aug. 8 at the Bonifacio Global City. The day-long event had two different divisions, the 3K and the 5K run, and served as a “fun and relaxed run with [your] family and kids.”

The marathon encouraged the support and promotion of breastfeeding in the country as an activity that promotes health and beauty for the mother and child, an affordable and accessible, not to mention environmentally friendly, way of feeding babies.

CMAP Run to Read Race

The Circulation Management Association of the Philippines (CMAP) “Run to Read” race staged at the National Library Grounds in Manila at 6:30 in the morning last July 18, 2010.

Three out-and-back races—3K, 5K and 10K—were lined up in the event aimed at drumming up interest in the reading awareness program of the CMAP, its president, Edwin Sacramed of the Philippine Daily Inquirer said in Tuesday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN Avenue.

Registration for the event, backed by Coca-, PAGCOR and the Newspaper, Magazine and Comics Dealers Association of the Philippines, happened last July 8 to 16 at the circulation departments of Abante/Abante Tonite, Manila Bulletin, Inquirer and Bulgar and the Manila Sports Council at the City Hall.

“CMAP chose running as a vehicle or instrument in promoting readership aside from its physical fitness benefit because we believe that running is attractive for all ages, gender, profession, individual or any group,” CMAP Vice President Marcelino Minor of Abante also said at the forum sponsored by Outlast Battery, PAGCOR, Accel, And Shakey’s Pizza.

1st Columbia Duathlon in the Philippines

Chase the Sun: The Neutrogena Run

A true runner will never let the intense summer heat get in the way of a good workout. Bike Festival Asia 2010

Filipino bikers from all over the country will again push pedals during the Bike Festival Asia 2010 to be held on May 21 – 22, 2010 at Terrazas de Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Batangas.

The event aims to boost tourism in Southern Luzon and promote wellness and active lifestyle. This annual event is co-presented by the Department of Tourism (DoT) and Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) (formerly Philippine Tourism Authority).

4th Men’s Health All-Terrain Race

Trail runners and mountain bikers will surely have their work cut out for them as they take part in the 4th Men’s Health All-Terrain Race to be held on May 16, 2010 in Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The Men’s Health All-Terrain Race is the most eagerly anticipated race in the country by both mountain bikers and trail runners. It’s is also the perfect springboard for new riders and runners to try something new and to push their limit.

Participants may choose to run the 6-kilometer, 10-kilometer or 16-kilometer trail course, or ride their bikes on the 20-kilometer or the 40-kilometer route. But for those up for the challenge, there is also the option to do both the 10-kilometer trail run and 20-kilometer bike ride. Racers will be running and/or riding on pavements, dirt roads and grass lands. They will also get the opportunity to admire the view from the top of a ravine, and get wet while crossing a river on their way to the finish line.

Skyathon Bora Beach and Surf Run

The Skyathon Bora Beach and Surf Run was held last April 24 at the Beach Front of Guilly’s Island in Station 1 in the island of Boracay. The competition gave freedom to runners if they prefer to go barefoot or run in aqua socks when they run in the said in the said island terrains.

Participants also joined the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary and Kiwanis Club of Boracay in cleaning up the area after the said competition.

This very special event was organized by Sky Cable and officiated by Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP). Padyak Pinoy 2010 featured LTDF

Le Tour de Filipinas (LTDF) featured cycling clubs from Europe, Asia, and Australia last April 17 to 20. The Tour kicked off with a 145-kilometer lung-buster in Tagaytay City, and the Stage 2 was a 60-km leg ending at Roxas Boulevard, followed by a 135-km Quezon City-Subic stage. The four-day event was capped by a 140-km Subic to Subic run.

Dynamic Outsource Solutions Inc. (Dos-1) Padyak Pinoy, the event’s organizer, noted that the foreign entries were from Europe’s Bordeaux (France), Power Move (Switzerland), AC Spart Pharma (Czech Republic), Arbo KTM Junkers (Germany) and CTK (Switzerland).

Dos-1 president and Padyak Pinoy chairman Edgardo Cayton noted that special guests from Australia’s Prime State and Medscheme/CPI of South Africa were invited to witness the exciting event.

The tour is proudly presented by Tanduay, Smart Communications Inc., and Air21. Moreover, LTDF is a part of the Union Cycling International (UCI), the Asia Tour calendar of the sport’s world governing body.

The UCI granted Dos-1/Padyak Pinoy the license to stage the international race, which is the first for the country since the foreign-flavored Marlboro Tour in 1999.

NRA challenges motor riders

The National Racing Association (NRA) in partnership with Castrol Activ Premium presented MOTOKHANA, a rider skills challenge on September 19, October 18 and November 9 of last year at Liberty Center, SM Southmall and Super8 respectively.

MOTOKHANA, a motorcycle sporting challenge, are competitions in which drivers attempt to maneuver around a twisty course in the quickest possible time. The course is usually set out on grass, or maybe a shopping centre car park, and is defined by flags or witches hats. Cars run singly and are timed. After everyone has run that course, the markers are set out in a new pattern, and the whole field attempts the next test.

The object of the competition is for each driver to complete all the test of the program in the prescribed manner, in the shortest possible time, without incurring penalties. Motorkhanas are regarded as the introductory level of events in the spectrum of motorsport. They offer to clubs and competitors the opportunity to conduct and take part in some of the less formalized events conducted under the National Competition Rules, in which the essential skills of car control and judgment may be practiced under conditions which avoid many of the hazards of public roads.
