Reforming the Face of Employment

“This is a pivotal year to unleash reforms in order to create a more business-friendly environment,” said Mr. Edgardo Lacson, president of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP), who organized the 31st National Conference of Employers (NCE31) last April 20 and 21 at the Manila Hotel.

Driven by their theme “Unleashing Reforms: Business, Jobs, and Governance,” NCE31 has three plenary sessions and two keynote addresses, which discussed the following: Reforms in labor market policies, reforms in governance towards economic recovery, reforms in labor justice administration, reforms to stimulate business for growth and productivity, and human rights as a vehicle for industrial peace.

Mr. Alfonos G. Siy, chairman of the NCE31, said that the “…overarching idea (of the conference) is to emphasize the reforms needed in the bold areas of labor market policy regime and labor administration.”

Keynote speaker for the vent was (then) President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who also delivered the closing remarks and presidential address.

The two-day conference was participated in and sponsored by Megaworld, BDO, SM Investments Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, Metrobank, Philexport, the Social Security System, PAG-IBIG Fund, the International Labor Organization, Toyota, Oishi, Mercedes Benz, PAGCOR, Doña Maria Rice, PLDT SME Nation, and BA Securities Inc.

Media partners for the event were Business World, the Manila Bulletin, and the Philippine Daily inquirer.
