Thousands of nurses assigned in the operationg rooms, delivery rooms, emergency rooms, and other perioperative areas from both government and private hospitals participated in the Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines 35th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting held last July 4 – 5, 2009 at the Fiesta Pavillion of Manila Hotel in Ermita, Manila.
Carrying the theme, “Embracing a Culture of Safety in Perioperative Care”, the event aims to enhance peri-operative nurses’ awareness in the practice of patient safety. It seeks to strengthen the partnership and proactive communication among the health care team toward the maintenance of a safe and caring work environment. It recognizes perioperative nurses’ safety initiatives and standard of care relevant to the quality improvement process. Finally, the meeting seeks to rekindle personalized and human caring toward quality outcomes in perioperative nursing care.
Professional Regulations Commission Commissioner Ruth Padilla, RN gave the keynote address for this year's convetion. Eight specialized topics were discussed by respected medical practitioners in the country during the two-day event. The topics are as follows:
