CINEMALAYA CINCO stars “The Last Supper No. 3” as Festival’s Best Film

The 5th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival entitled as CINEMALAYA CINCO had given birth once more to well-thought of Filipino Independent Films of today. Among the ten (10) full-length film entries, the humorous “The Last Supper No. 3”, which canvassed a true-to-life story of a production designer who flopped his career down for two years by losing a “Last Supper” prop, was recognized to feast for the title “BEST FILM”. The festival was held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) last July 17 to 26, 2009.

The bunch of winners and special awards to the participating 10 full-length and 10 short independent films are as follows:

Aside from film screenings, CINEMALAYA CINCO also accommodated other film-related events like the Cinemalaya Film Congress, a two-day conference that looks at all aspects of independent filmmaking and distribution, and the Cinemalaya Sine Taktakan, a forum with the year’s batch of new Cinemalaya filmmakers.

The Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival is a film competition and festival that aims to encourage the creation of new cinematic works by Filipino filmmakers – works that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity.

The event was made possible by Cinemalaya, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Econolink Investments, Inc., Film Development Council of the Philippines in cooperation with Canon, TV 5, and Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC).
