Education is one of the most effective, if not the best, methods of eliminating ignorance, poverty, exclusion, and misunderstandings between citizens and nations.
Believing the every Filipino deserves and must have access to quality education and acknowledging that the Philippine Education System cannot be left to the government alone but rather takes collective effort from the community, the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) organized several workshops across the Metro regarding different concerns that surround the Philippine Education System.
Banding together to form the Philippine Education Nation, volunteers and other advocates arranged five different workshops: Education Governance and Financing (July 16, Ateneo Professional Schools, Rockwell, Makati); Basic Education Cycle (Aug. 20, AIM Joseph McMicking Campus, Paseo De Roxas, Makati); Teacher Quality and Welfare (Sept. 17, Friedrich Naumann Foundation, San Lorenzo Village, Makati); Higher Education (Oct. 15, Jose Rizal University, Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong); and Alternative Learning System (Nov. 19, Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement Inc., Mother Ignacia St., Quezon City).
The PBEd and Education Nation believe that the Philippines must become an Education Nation and the government must become and support a government that focuses on and prioritizes education as a strategy to combat poverty. These two groups are also campaigning for educational reforms and better management of resources and manpower for a totally renewed educational system.
One of the nation’s three major dailies, the Philippine Daily Inquirer, is a fervent supporter of the Education Nation.
