Bringing Higher Education to New Heights

Geodata Systems Technologies, a geographic information systems (GIS) end-to-end solutions provider, in collaboration with the University of Cordilleras (UC), held the first ever GIS Regional Conference at the UC Theater last July 28 and 29.

The conference was attended by a more than 150-strong delegation, led by representative from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The CHED Technical Panel for Information Technology Education (TPITE) Faculty Immersion Project was also launched on the same day.

Secretary Emmanuel Angeles had two key priority areas which were relevant to the conference: faculty development and institutionalizing industry-academe linkages. With the theme GIS: Technology Solutions for Community-Based Progress, the conference discussed the targets of providing masters and doctorate degrees for teachers, as well as the improvement of on-the-job training programs for students, research collaborations, and extension services.

The GIS project between the UC and Geodata Systems is the first of its kind, and this partnership focused on business operations and, to a lesser extent, technical skills development in the area of geographical information system.

Among the attendees were Mr. John Morales, senior vice president for Technical and Implementation Services; Mr. Patrice Boursier, a professor from the University of the Philippines; and Ms. Dittas Formoso, senior adviser of Geodata Systems for SMBD.
