The Society of Filipino Activist (SFA) conducted a live out seminar on Managing Electronic Records and Workshops on Disasters at the University Hotel, University of the Philippines, Diliman Quezon City last December 1-3, 2009.
With the theme, The Morning After: Recovery of Office Records, Library and Archival Materials, the event discussed the problems of offices, libraries, and archives with collections damaged or destroyed by disasters. The first day was spearheaded by Ms. Teresa S. Montesa, former SFA president and senior records/archives officer at the International Monetary Fund.
The training, moreover, helped the participants learn more about the fundamentals and requirements of managing electronic record. Hands-on exercises were also performed to practice more on salvaging water-damaged collections.
Recovering destroyed office records and material caused by disasters become well rampant and is one of the top issues in the last months due to the recent storms and floods experienced in Metro Manila and in some other parts of the country.
Ms. Emma M. Rey took charge in gathering participants (0917-8534609, emmarey@yahoo.com), together with Ms. Ma. Teresa S. Bondoc (5526856, Fax: 5526764, 0917-5660120, dirbondic@yahoo.com), and Ms. Candida G. Sarmiento (9318380loc. 432, 0919-4171205, aidagsarmiento@yahoo.com).
