PEN launches New Writing in the Philippines

The Philippine Center of the International Poets and Playwrights, Essayists, Novelist (PEN) rekindle the spirit of literature in the Philippines as it held its annual conference for writers at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Bulwagang Pambansang Alagad ng Sining last December 5, 2009.

With its theme “New writing in the Philippines”, the event discussed various tips and topics from Keynote Speaker Mr. Ricardo de Ungria, commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Jose Rizal lectures that was discussed by National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera. Convenors, on the other hand, include National Artists S. Sionil Jose and Elmer Ordoñez. 

The PEN Annual Conference is sponsored by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Washington Sycip, Sen. Edgardo Angara, Mr. Henry Sy and the SM malls, Alfonso Yuchengco Foundation, National Bookstore, Solidaridad Book Store, De La Salle University, and the Official Student Publication of the University of the Philippines, The Varsitarian.
