The First Philippine Energy Efficiency Forum

One of the driving forces for a better productivity is the proper management and ensuring the efficiency of energy sources. Energy efficiency not only spells more revenue but also a better and healthier environment.

This ideal situation fueled the first ever Philippine Energy Efficiency Forum (PEEF), conducted by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza last July 14.

With the theme "Enhancing Competitiveness through Energy Efficiency," the forum brought together advocates of energy efficiency from both the private sector and the government, including representatives from the Department of Energy (DOE).

The ECCP said the PEEF would hopefully enlist the commitment of the participants to implement energy efficiency programs at the enterprise level. Concerned not only on generating more income, but also on reducing the carbon footprint to help stop the deterioration of the environment, the one-day forum was also geared toward building alliances among government institutions, private companies, and environmental organizations. The event also featured a "Technology Showcase" that presented the latest, cutting edge technologies and practices in the continuing crusade for energy efficiency.

Participants to the PEEF also included executives from appliance, electronic, and equipment industries, building manufacturers and suppliers, and electricity, gas, oil, and automotive industries. Also present were leaders and officials from the academe, financial institutions, foreign embassies, and trade organizations.

The PEEF was sponsored by Philips Electronic and Lighting, First Gen Corp., Manila Electric Co., Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., and Schneider Electric Philippines.
