Pacquiao Shelled out 2 Million for International Dartfest

Current World Boxing Council (WBC) Lightweight Champion Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao gave away a total of P2 million prize money during the Manny Pacquiao International Darts Classic held last December 12 – 15, 2008 at the Lagao Air-Conditioned Gymnasium in General Santos City, South Cotabato.

Over 400 local and international darters joined the four-day event organized by the National Darts Federation of the Philippines (NDFP). The participants competed in different categories: Open Singles, Ladies’ Singles, Youth Singles, Classified Doubles, Classified Triples, Four Person Team, and Mixed (Fixed) Doubles.

To mark the beginning of the dartfest, Mr. Pacquiao, a dart enthusiast himself, showed off his skills by throwing in some pins at the dartboard located center stage.

In the end, Malaysian Dream Team member Tengku Hadzali Shah won P320, 000.00 for the Open Singles Category. Winners for the other categories include Janice Hinojales for Ladies’ Single, Ronnie Mar Gellaga for Youth Singles, Gale Santos and Jepoy Adumduman for Classified Doubles, Dixie Ybañez, Noel Maturan, and Ramil Diaz for Classified Triples, Ybañez, Jun Espinola, Allan Medroso, and Mark Palad for Four Person Team, and Long Longyapon and Bebot Mangle from Davao City for Mixed (Fixed) Doubles.

The sports event is supported by the Mindanao Archipelago Dart Federation, Association of General Santos City Darters and the local government of General Santos City led by Mayor Pedro Acharon and sponsored by Robson Sportscraft and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
